Logging In

You can log on in either single, or multiple user mode by running the file index.html in the root directory of the program.  Use single user mode if only one user makes use of the computer.  Use multiple user mode if, for example in a school computer lab, several users make use of the same computer.

Single user:

There is no need to create a user ID, and there is only one set of records such as questions answered (see technical information).

Multiple user:

Each user needs to create a unique ID to allow the program to follow their own progress.   User ID's will probably be some combination of initials and names.  The user ID can be up to 10 characters long.  For example, each of the following are valid user ID's:

Passwords can also be up to ten characters long.  They can be any combination of characters.  The password is case sensitive (the user ID is not), so these passwords are different:

There is no way that a forgotten password can be recovered.  If you forget your password, you will have to create a new user ID.

Each user ID keeps their own set of records such as questions answered (see technical information)

Creating a new user

To make a new user, just enter a new user ID.  Then press the [Logon] button.   On the next screen you can enter a password (you have to enter the password twice to confirm that you have typed it correctly).

Technical Information

Cookies are used to store information about each user, such as what pages they have completed, their answers to questions and so on.  Cookies are stored locally on each computer, so if users log in from different systems – for example from home and from school – they can have two separate accounts.  Neither will have any information from the other.  In order for Mission to Mars to track your progress, you must always use the same computer.

Unless each user logs on with their own account, cookies store information about the computer, not the user.  To allow cookies to be used for each individual user, users must log on to the startup page in Mission to Mars using the multiple user logon.  This allows the program to track individual users progress, even in a school setting where many individuals may use the same computer.

These cookies are set to expire in ten days.  If a user does not logon again within ten days, their account information will be lost.

You can reset the information about ALL the users by deleting the cookie files associated with this website.  When you do this you will clear all the Mission to Mars information about every user who uses this computer.

Occasionally, the cookie can become corrupt.  If this happens, then the program will not recognize your password, and want you to logon again.  If this happens, you may need to erase the cookie.
